Common Pregnancy Symptoms
Pregnancy symptoms vary from woman to woman. Many begin to experience
symptoms within a few days of conception, while it may take others weeks before
they feel symptoms. Other women may never feel any symptoms at all.
Because your body is experiencing rapid hormonal changes, it is important to
be patient with yourself and your growing needs, and growing stomach!
When it is all said and done, you will have a beautiful baby to show for your
efforts.
The first pregnancy symptoms that commonly occur are nausea and vomiting.
Though not all women experience what is commonly called morning sickness, many
women do. This nausea is not limited to the morning, however. Some
women feel the most sick during afternoon or evening hours.
Frequent urination is another pregnancy symptom that occurs in most women.
Because the uterus enlarges to accommodate the growing fetus, it puts pressure
on the bladder, causing the need for more frequent urination. This symptom
typically begins within one or two weeks after fertilization.
Irritability is another common pregnancy symptom that if virtually inescapable.
Because your hormones are changing so rapidly, it only makes sense that your
mood would be affected. Exercise and a healthy diet often help to take
the edge off of your mood, and irritability tends to decrease at the beginning
of the second trimester.
Tiredness is another common pregnancy symptom. Because of the hormonal
changes taking place, your body tends to feel tired. Hormonal changes
also cause an increase in body temperature, leading to even more sluggishness.
Dizziness and fainting can also occur as the uterus begins compressing arteries
in the legs, causing blood pressure to drop. Also, if you don’t
eat frequently enough, you may develop low blood sugar. It is important
to maintain a healthy balance, since blood sugar is the main source of food
for the fetus.
