What to Expect from Your Pregnancy

Your first pregnancy is a very exciting time in your life.  Your body will experience many changes even during the first few weeks, and these will continue up until the time of your baby’s birth.

When you first suspect that you are pregnant, you should take a home pregnancy test.  It is important to wait several weeks before taking the test, because taking it too soon may give you a false negative result even if you really are pregnant.  If you find that you are pregnant, you should see your doctor to confirm this.  He will give a blood test to make sure, and he will advise you on your prenatal care plan.

During the first few weeks of your pregnancy, you may feel nausea during the morning hours.  This is often referred to as morning sickness, though many women get it in the afternoon or evening hours.  You may also feel a more frequent need to urinate.  This happens because the uterus becomes enlarged and puts added pressure on the bladder.  Moodiness and irritability are another symptom common to the pregnant woman.  This happens because the body’s hormonal make-up is changing suddenly and drastically.  Breast tenderness is another thing to expect when you become pregnant, as they begin readying themselves for producing milk for when the baby is born.

There are many books available that outline step-by-step what to expect from your pregnancy.  Once you are informed about what to expect, your body’s changes will not come as a shock to you, and you will feel more in control of yourself and your emotions.  There are whole sections in bookstores devoted to these topics, and baby specialty stores also carry a range of informational books and calendars that will help make your pregnancy an exciting and enjoyable experience for you and those around you.
